Hello everyone, sorry I haven't posted in a while have been wrapped up with AP testing so fishing has been a bit slow for me but I do have a blog in store for you! A couple weeks ago when I was able to get out and go fishing I was able to go after a species that typically you wouldn't be able to unless you are out fishing the open waters of the ocean. This species is Shad, Shad come up the river that runs behind my house (Rappahannock) every year to lay eggs and head back to open waters. So I decided in the winter that me and good friend of mine would go out and try to catch us a few shad in which we did and I will explain how we went about doing this. We woke up pretty early, I think between 630- 7 am and meet up along the bridge and decided how we where going to fish the water. We had scouted the night before and noticed that fishing deep pools was the best option for us as shad have very sensitive eyes and can't stand the bright sun but in the end we got lucky and had a cloudy day. So then from there we had to decide what style of fishing we wanted to use in order to better the chances of catching a fish, I decided to go with my fly rod and have my spin reel set up with a rooster tail for a back up and Kenny went with a spin reel with a rooster tail. Well, Kenny had the best luck catching two shad with the spinner set up and I had no luck so I decided to give my rooster tail a shot and third cast I caught a shad. So my suggestion would be rooster tail! Thanks! if any questions to wear I fish and caught the most shad please feel free to leave a comment and i'll explain more into detail.
Ah it is that time of year again, slightly warm weather nice bright sunny days. Its a great sign fishing is right around the cornor. When March hit's two of my favorite things start baseball and fishing. Now March fishing is probably one of my favorite times to fish, simply because that's when the spun starts for large mouth bass!! Why is this a great time to fish for bass? Well simply because that's when they tend to be the most aggressive as they care for their offspring. Another great reason is, because they tend to bed on hard structure which means they will move away from deep water and come closer to bank making spot fishing easier! I love to walk along rock piles seeing monster fish and throwing in my favorite bait the rage craw. The rage craw is my go to bait simply because the mock the craw fish that eat bass eggs or babies. So typically bass are going to try to fight off those craw fish by eating them thus making the rage craw the best bait to use!
Hello everyone,
It has been a while since I have blogged but I wanted to share with you today what my all-time favorite lure is while I fish. Since I generally fish rivers and small creeks, I have one lure that I will always have hooked to my line. Its the Lure of all lures in my opinion, the rooster tail is my go to in any type of situation. I have been using a rooster tail my entire life and I have caught a wide range of fish from pan fish, small and largemouth bass, and Muskie. One of the many qualities of this product is how many color options you can choose from, sometimes it gives me a bit of anxiety when I'm buying them because I love every single color. Many anglers like the idea of big fish targeting big lures. As there is truth to that statement, with a rooster tail I am able catch fish that don't have the mouth to be able to bit a big lure or crank bait. But what is amazing is I can catch a fish that might be five to six inches long or I can catch a fish that is a lot larger and weighs ten pounds with a rooster tail. I hope you enjoyed my little blog, if you have any questions please feel free to leave a comment and I'll be happy to answer to the best of my knowledge. |
